Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of the Federal Government of Somalia met with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Juma Al Rumaithi, at his office today.
During the meeting, they discussed a range of important matters, focusing on the strengthening of strategic relations and cooperation between the two countries.
PM Barre expressed his gratitude to the ambassador for the meeting, emphasizing the Federal Government of Somalia’s unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration with the UAE in various mutually beneficial areas.
The Prime Minister reiterated his administration’s determination to eradicate the threat of Al-Shabaab, calling for concerted efforts to address the extremist group, which has been destabilizing the Horn of Africa nation for decades.
Additionally, Barre appealed to the UAE to stand with the Somali people during the current humanitarian crisis caused by the recent El-Nino floods and the ongoing spring rains.
Ambassador Al Rumaithi praised the efforts of Somalia’s government in combating Al-Shabaab and reiterated the UAE government’s commitment to supporting Somalia in its pursuit of peace, stability, and in addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country.
Since 2014, the UAE has been supporting Somalia in various areas, including security, economic and national development, humanitarian assistance, and the training of hundreds of Somali troops.
