Turkish Military Base in Mogadishu Extends Aid to Families of Injured Soldiers

Officials at the Turkish military base in Mogadishu, Somalia, have reported the delivery of food aid to the families of two soldiers from the Gorgor Unit. These soldiers were injured during a security operation and are currently receiving treatment at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Training and Research Hospital.

The aid was provided to support the families of the injured soldiers and to demonstrate Turkey’s unwavering commitment to supporting them during difficult times, emphasized the officials. Additionally, they stated that the aid aims to support the armed forces actively engaged in security and counter-terrorism operations, as well as their families.

**TURKSOM: Türkiye’s Largest Overseas Base**

TURKSOM, the Somali Turkish Task Force Command, stands as Türkiye’s largest overseas base. The strategic importance of this base has significantly increased following the signing of the “Defense and Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement” in February 2024.

Established on September 30, 2017, the base, also known as TURKSOM, provides training to Somali land, air, and naval forces personnel at the Anadolu Barracks.

Moreover, the support provided in counter-terrorism, at Somalia’s request, will be extended to maritime security, opening up opportunities for the Somali people to benefit from the sea’s wealth.
