Starting with a significant meeting, Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Maalam Faqi, met with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo on Saturday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations. Concluding the session, mutual goals were affirmed.
Opening with a focus on major cooperation areas, the Somali government stated that the two ministers concentrated on economic, security, education, cultural, training, and health aspects. They also discussed implementing a direct flight between the two countries in July and opening a Bank of Egypt branch in Somalia. Cooperation expanded.
Beginning discussions on broader topics, during the meeting, Shoukry and Faqi also addressed the latest developments in the African region and regional and international issues of mutual interest. Interests aligned.
Highlighting a major development, EgyptAir is expected to begin direct flights from Cairo to Mogadishu on July 11, enhancing connectivity and economic ties between Egypt and Somalia. Flights scheduled.
