Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, currently on his third day in the Middle Shabelle region, convened with traditional elders and community leaders in the rural area of Wargadhi to discuss their pivotal role in ongoing military operations against al-Shabab.
In their discussions, the President stressed the federal government’s comprehensive preparation, including equipment, vehicles, military infrastructure, and weaponry, necessary to effectively liberate the country from the grip of the al-Shabab group.
“The Head of State inspected a military base in the vicinity, essential for providing crucial technical support to the Somali Armed Forces on the front lines of the conflict, ensuring the successful conclusion of operations against al-Shabab terrorists,” the government announced.
President Mohamud has actively led the campaign against al-Shabab over the past year, during which significant territorial gains have been achieved by the national army. However, specific details regarding the timeline for resuming operations in Galmudug and Hirshabelle states were not disclosed by the federal government.
