The Somali National Army (SNA) successfully eliminated 25 Al-Shabab militants during a military operation in the rural area of Ras Qabow, located in the Middle Shabelle region, on Saturday.
According to Mohamed Hassan Abukar Dhaladheere, commander of the 251st unit of the 25th brigade, the operation was launched after Somali forces repelled an assault by the extremist group. A fierce battle broke out between the army and the militants.
“Our brave National Army forces taught the Khawarij [a term the government uses to describe Al-Shabab] a lesson after they attempted to attack our base in Ras Qabow. Twenty-five militants were killed,” stated Commander Dhaladheere, adding that their forces are continuing efforts to track down other militants involved in the attack.
This operation follows a series of successful SNA missions, including recent engagements where 59 militants were killed in the Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle regions. Working in collaboration with local militias and international partners, the SNA eliminated 32 militants in Garilay and 27 in Yaaqle, near Hawadlay.
