A cargo plane transporting food supplies and a team of trainers for the ATMIS mission crashed on Saturday at Jowhar airport after veering off the runway.
Mukhtar Abukar, the manager of Jowhar Airport, informed local media that there were no casualties; all passengers and supplies were safely evacuated from the aircraft.
He further explained that the plane, which was providing logistical support to the ATMIS troops, had departed from Uganda en route to the ATMIS forces stationed in Hirshabelle State.
“While the plane sustained damage, fortunately, there were no casualties. Moreover, the incident did not disrupt the smooth operation of Jowhar airport,” he remarked.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, as the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has yet to provide any comments on the incident.
