Commencement of Repatriation of Ethiopians from Saudi Arabia Set for Two Weeks’ Time

Addis Ababa, March 2024 (FBC) – Confirming the commencement of the third phase of repatriation for 70,000 Ethiopian nationals encountering challenges in Saudi Arabia, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, announced plans set to begin in two weeks.

Ambassador Birtukan conveyed this information during a session of the National Committee, which she leads, focusing on the repatriation efforts for Ethiopian nationals experiencing hardship in Saudi Arabia.

She stressed the importance of cohesive efforts among federal institutions and regional states, both integral parts of the national committee, for the successful repatriation of citizens.

Ensuring the availability of essential resources such as budget allocations, logistical support, and proper shelters upon their return to Addis Ababa was highlighted by Ambassador Birtukan as crucial for the smooth execution of the repatriation process.

Ms. Teyiba Hassen, Director General of Refugees and Returnees Service of Ethiopia (RRS), echoed the urgency of prioritizing the repatriation of Ethiopian citizens facing adversity in KSA, urging relevant institutions and regional states to act accordingly.

Members of the National Committee affirmed their dedication to facilitating the necessary arrangements to ensure the timely fulfillment of the repatriation plan.
