Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Role Given to Somali Politician by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has announced the appointment of Adem Farah as the Deputy Prime Minister and head of the newly established Democracy System Building Coordination Center, effective April 1, 2024.

Adem Farah, previously holding positions within the ruling Prosperity Party, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as Deputy and Head of the party’s Center. Hailing from the Somali regional government, particularly the Siti region, Adem Farah has held various esteemed positions, including Speaker of the Federation Council of Ethiopia and Vice President of the Somali Region, along with serving as the former Mayor of Diridhabe.

His appointment has been met with widespread approval from both the Somali regional government and its people, who view it as a significant victory for the region.
