Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud engaged in discussions with EU Ambassador to Somalia, Ms. Karin Johansson, in Mogadishu to address a spectrum of critical issues including security, development, and Somalia’s ongoing democratization process. The meeting, held on Saturday, served as a platform for the Ambassador to express the EU’s unwavering commitment to Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Highlighting the significance of bilateral collaboration, President Mohamud and the Ambassador emphasized the necessity for strengthened ties between Somalia and the EU. Recent diplomatic developments saw Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Addis Ababa. This agreement granted Ethiopia access to the Red Sea through the port of Berbera in Somaliland. However, Somalia adamantly rejected the deal, citing concerns over its implications for regional stability and sovereignty.
