On Friday night, gunmen shot and killed Ali Omar Gaab, a former Member of Parliament for South West State, in Mogadishu’s Yaqshid district.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen, armed with pistols, shot Gaab and quickly escaped. Security forces arrived at the scene, but no arrests were made.
The al-Shabab militant group has claimed responsibility for the killing, saying Gaab was a Member of Parliament representing the South West Somalia administration.
So far, neither the South West State authorities nor the federal government have commented on the killing.
