Flydubai Suspends Mogadishu Flights Amid Security Concerns

Effective June 11, 2024, Flydubai Airlines has announced the suspension of its operations to and from Mogadishu, according to a message sent to its partners.

“We regret to inform you that due to operational reasons, Flydubai will be suspending its operations to/from Mogadishu effective June 11, 2024. Our last flight shall be operated on June 10,” the message stated.

Despite the airline not specifying the reasons behind the suspension, reports suggest it is due to security concerns.

Historically, this is not the first time Flydubai has taken such a step. In April, a similar situation occurred when several airlines, including Flydubai, halted their flights to Mogadishu in response to a security alert from the US Embassy.

Interestingly, some airlines resumed their flights to the Somali capital a few days later.

Headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Flydubai began its direct flights to Mogadishu on March 9, 2023, marking the first direct flight between Somalia and the UAE.
