The Invest Somalia and Expo conference, aimed at boosting investment opportunities and showcasing Somalia’s economic potential, is currently taking place in Mogadishu. Hosted by the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MoPIED), Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barreh inaugurated the event on Wednesday. With the hashtag #InvestSomalia2024, the conference has attracted prominent figures from around the world.
The two-day conference is designed to showcase Somalia’s potential in key sectors such as agriculture, telecommunications, and infrastructure—areas essential for the country’s revitalization and economic growth. By demonstrating the viability of these sectors to international investors, the event aims to catalyze economic development and create jobs.
The Invest Somalia and Expo conference hopes to engage a diverse array of diplomats, investors, and stakeholders, emphasizing Somalia’s commitment to forging strong economic ties and creating a favorable investment climate.
Mohamud Beenebeene opened the conference, emphasizing its goals to boost economic growth by promoting investment opportunities within Somalia. The event is part of a broader strategy to attract international investments and showcase Somalia’s economic potential.
Keynote speakers included Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya; H.E. Amb. Hon. Kubai Iringo, Kenya’s Ambassador to Somalia, and Stephen Waithaka Gitagama, Group Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director at Nation Media Group Ltd. Their speeches highlighted ongoing and potential collaborations between Somalia and international partners.
The conference also featured cultural performances by students from the Royal Muslim Academy, who sang the Somali and East African anthems, highlighting the region’s rich heritage.
Mr. Mohamed Dubo, director of the Somalia Investment Promotion Office under MoPIED, is the master of ceremonies for this pivotal event. Mr. Mo Shire, Director-General of MoPIED, also welcomed the distinguished guests, stressing the importance of such initiatives for sustainable economic growth in Somalia.
