Preliminary Agreement Reached to End Inter-Clan Fighting in Somalia’s Mudug Region

On Saturday, two Somali clans reached a preliminary agreement to end recent inter-clan fighting in the Mudug region, following efforts led by a delegation from the Puntland and Galmudug administrations.

Clashes in the Jiicboor area, located in the west of the Mudug region, have resulted in nearly 30 deaths and over 50 injuries, according to local residents.

Arriving at the locations where the fighting took place, the delegation held separate meetings with both sides to halt the conflict and organized further formal meetings to address the underlying issues.

Reporting on their progress, the delegation stated that they succeeded in convincing both sides to cease fire and separate the opposing forces.

Militias from the Sa’ad and Lelakase sub-clans were involved in the conflict, which took place in a rural area between Goldogob and Saah Qurun.
