President Mohamud Oversees Departure of Severely Wounded SYL Victims for Medical Treatment in Turkey

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside ministers, MPs, and other senior government officials, bid farewell to 19 individuals injured in the SYL hotel attack near the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu at the Aden Adde International Airport (AAIA) on Sunday.

According to Somali Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Haji Adan, the injured patients are being transported to Turkey for medical treatment.

The Al-Shabab militant group launched an assault on the hotel, a popular spot among government officials and politicians, on Thursday night. The attack began with a car bomb explosion followed by militants storming the premises on foot.

During a press conference, a police spokesperson stated that three people were killed and 27 others injured in the assault.

Among the injured is Somali government spokesperson Farhan Jimale, currently receiving treatment at Erdogan Hospital in the capital, Mogadishu.

Both President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre separately visited the injured victims of the attack at ErdoÄŸan Hospital in Mogadishu on Friday.

Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the 13-hour-long siege at the hotel.

The group frequently targets government officials, security forces, and clerics loyal to the government, aiming to destabilize the Horn of Africa nation since 2006.
