Authorities in Puntland and Galmudug announced on Monday plans to use military force to stop the ongoing clan conflict in the eastern region of Mudug. The decision follows a recent clash between two clan militias in the Labi Maygaag area, which resulted in the deaths of about ten people and left 15 others injured.
Rooted in local disputes and long-standing clan feuds, the conflict involves militias from both Puntland and Galmudug. Although efforts to resolve the conflict have been underway, the violence has claimed many lives on both sides.
Emphasizing the necessity of military intervention to halt the fighting, governors from the Mudug region of both administrations have called for the immediate deployment of joint forces to the conflict zone to prevent further escalation.
Despite the fighting subsiding after several hours, concerns are growing that it may reignite as both clan militias continue their military mobilization. The potential for renewed violence underscores the urgency of the authorities’ call for military action to stabilize the region.
