Somali Ambassador Presents Credentials in UAE Amid Flydubai’s Suspension of Mogadishu Flights

On Thursday, Somali Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Hussein Halane, presented his credentials to the Assistant Undersecretary for Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saif Abdulla Alshamisi, in Dubai.

Wishing the new ambassador success in his duties, the UAE official emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the UAE and Somalia.

Expressing his pleasure in representing his country in the United Arab Emirates, Ambassador Halane highlighted the prestigious regional and international position of the UAE under the visionary leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Coinciding with the presentation of credentials, Flydubai Airlines announced the suspension of its operations to and from Mogadishu, effective June 11, 2024, according to a message sent to its partners.

While the airline did not specify the reasons behind the suspension, reports suggest it is due to security concerns. Based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Flydubai began its direct flights to Mogadishu on March 9, 2023, marking the first direct flight between Somalia and the UAE.
