On Saturday, Somali army forces successfully executed a planned security operation in the Lower Shabelle region, resulting in the death of al-Shabab operative Abdulkadir Haji Enow. Commander Farah Mohamud Hirsi of the 26th unit of the 6th battalion informed Somali National Television on Sunday that local residents in the Golweyn area provided crucial information leading to the operation.
Commander Farah Mohamud affirmed that such operations will continue to target al-Shabab members in the region, though he did not specify the killed operative’s rank within the group.
This military action occurred a week after an airstrike by Somali army forces, backed by international allies, killed at least nine al-Shabab militants in the Middle Shabelle and Galgadud regions. According to the Ministry of Information, the airstrike targeted areas in Ali Helle and Barag Sheikh Aamir, resulting in the deaths of four militants in Ali Helle and five in Barag Sheikh Aamir.
