Tanzania Promises to Help Somalia Stay Safe

Dar es Salaam: Tanzania promises to keep supporting Somalia, especially in defense and security, to make sure there’s lasting peace in the East African country.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan said this after meeting Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at the State House in Dar es Salaam.

President Mohamud is in Tanzania for a one-day visit.

President Samia added that Tanzania is ready to train Somalis in defense, as well as in health and education.

She also mentioned that Tanzania and Somalia are working together to improve healthcare and education.

President Mohamud thanked Tanzania for its support during tough times. He said that because Somalia has been doing well in managing its debts, the arms embargo against Somalia has been lifted.

This is President Mohamud’s first visit to Tanzania since Somalia joined the East African Community (EAC). He was one of the seven heads of state who attended the 60th-anniversary celebration of the Union in Dar es Salaam.
